The climate stripes illuminate Lecce:

The CMCC Foundation participates in the "Conversations on the Future" festival, bringing the topic of climate change to the center of public discourse.

Held in Lecce from October 12 to 15, 2023, and now in its tenth edition, the festival aligns with the ShowYourStripes campaign: on the urban walls of the Salento capital, thanks to collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, the "Climate Stripes" will be projected.

These colored stripes illustrate the temperature increase in the Salento capital from 1981 to 2022, displaying high-resolution climate data for Italy produced by the REMHI division of the CMCC Foundation through the Dataclime climate services platform (www.dataclime.com), with the consultancy of information designer Angela Morelli (CEO - InfoDesignLab).

Conceived in 2018 by the British climatologist Ed Hawkins, climate stripes are an effective visualization of global and local warming climate data: if the stripe turns red, it means the temperature has increased in that year, if it is blue, it means it has decreased. The darker the red and blue, the greater the temperature difference, with darker red indicating warmer and darker blue indicating cooler.
