Climate profile for the city of Rome

Goals

The objective of the activity is the study and development of a climate profile for the city of Rome, with the aim of describing the expected climate for the future considering different IPCC CMIP5 scenarios. the activity was carried out on behalf of the administration of Roma Capitale in support of the development of the climate change adaptation plan, in order to increase the level of resilience of the territory to the impacts of climate change or for assessments preparatory to the development of sector plans.

Carried out activities

The carried out activities have focused on the identification of climatic hazards, selected in agreement with local stakeholders, through the selection of indicators relating to changes in the precipitation and temperature regime in relation to the analyzed sectors such as settlement systems, infrastructure, summer and winter tourism, agriculture, forests and biodiversity. Climate hazard indicators included hydrogeological hazards, floods, landslides, avalanches, fires (drought) and heat waves. The observed climate has been analysed through local weather data while the future expected climate anomalies due to climate change were considered through simulation with high resolution models. In particular, it has been used two different IPCC scenarios (RCP 4.5 ed 8.5) and it has been considered different future periods;

Dataclime functionalities

Dataclime platform gives the possibility to download maps and times series of climate hazard indicators for the observed climate and for the expected future anomalies using high resolution climate projections developed by CMCC and climate projections built by other programs and projects.
