MULTICLIMACT: MULTI-faceted CLIMate adaptation ACTions to improve resilience, preparedness and responsiveness of the built environment against multiple hazards at multiple scales
Goal
The MULTICLIMACT project is dedicated to safeguarding Europe’s built environment from the increasing threats posed by natural and climatic hazards, through innovative adaptation strategies implemented at various European pilot sites. The project addresses floods, earthquakes, extreme weather, and heatwaves, and integrates its approach into international and European climate-resilient urban planning initiatives. Its methodology is demonstrated and tested across four case studies representing diverse geographical, environmental, and socio-economic contexts. Carried out activities
The activities performed by CMCC have focused on:
- Assessing climate hazard using a series of climate indicators as proxies for hazards, complemented by additional relevant information from open-access repositories.
- Developing a quantitative, KPI-based framework for assessing climate risk and resilience of the built environment at multiple scales.
- Analysing and comparing existing adaptation policies at global, EU, national, and local levels.
- Developing a catalogue of adaptation measures for a climate-resilient built environment.
- Developing quantitative frameworks for assessing the risk of transport infrastructures (roads/railways) under extreme heat.
Dataclime functionalities
The hazards considered, aligned with the objectives of MULTICLIMACT, include heatwaves, floods, and droughts. The various climate data will be made available to the case studies through DATACLIME (www.dataclime.com). Specifically, the Dataclime platform gives the possibility to view and download all the hazard maps (3 different scenarios IPCC considered – RCP2.6, RCP4.5, RCP8.5, two future periods 2036-2065 and 2056-2085) of the different hazard indicators concerning temperature and precipitation defined in the hazard assessment phase.
