The call for applications for admission to the PhD course in “Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenge”, set up for the first time by the University of Bologna, is open!
The doctoral program revolves around 4 main themes: (a) Earth System; (b) Impacts, adaptation and vulnerability; (c) Technological innovations for a zero-emission society; (d) Socio-economic and legal studies on climate change mitigation. Students will have to choose between one of these themes their main theme at the time of applying, although the interdisciplinary nature of the work will still be ensured by the extreme cross-disciplinarity of the courses held during the first year of the doctorate.
The doctorate will last three years and the scheduled courses will take place in English. A research experience of at least three months is planned at a foreign institution, agreed with the student’s supervisors. Furthermore, the student will have to attend at least 10 seminars each year on the main topic of his / her research.

A doctoral scholarship to carry out research in “Advanced coastal modeling and data assimilation” (Advanced coastal modeling and data assimilation techniques); the doctoral candidate winning this scholarship must conduct part of his research activities at the CMCC headquarters in Lecce;
A doctoral scholarship to carry out research in “Coupled atmosphere-ocean model forecasts in the Mediterranean area” (“Forecasts from coupled atmosphere-ocean models for the Mediterranean area”);
A doctoral scholarship to carry out research activities in the following area: “Raising operational efficiency of shipping via meteo-oceanographic information” (“Increasing the operational efficiency of navigation through weather and oceanographic information”);
